Christine Tobin is an Irish singer-songwriter. Her style, although rooted in jazz, is steeped in the singer-songwriter tradition and draws on a broad range of influences from West Africa to Brazil (Oumou Sangare, Fela Kuti, Elis Regina etc) Her sound is rich, authentic and deeply expressive and was described by the Guardian as “Tobin’s 24 carat voice” while praising her both for the poetry of her compositions and her golden voice. Much of her repertoire is self-penned and Tobin has received many accolades for her skills as a writer and arranger. Romantic and radical, Christine is a musical free spirit who blurs the lines to create her own unique style that is streetwise and eclectic. In 2008 she was named Best Vocalist at the BBC Jazz Awards.

Hi Christine
It was good to chat yesterday outside the Cup Cake Cafe as you had a coffee. I had a brief chat with the group we were listening to – they are called ‘Only The Young’ and are singing at Wembley next Saturday(?) at the Capital FM Summertime Ball. I think this was as a result of some audience nomination? There is quite a bit about them on the internet. Interesting I think. Hope you voice is recovering..see you soon. I hope this post reaches you OK.

Hi Bob, A lovely surprise to see you too. I’m still croaking and feeling a bit queasy today again! The weather is so gorgeous I wish I could be out there on my bike. Best of luck to ‘Only the Young’ they sounded and looked like a good bunch! Will see you again soon I’m sure. Best, Christine x

Did you see last night on ITV they – Only the Young – got through to the Live shows for the X Factor – and vey good they were too
