Returning Weather is the latest work from Dublin born multi-award-winning vocalist and songwriter Christine Tobin. Celebrated for her versatility and nonconformist musical spirit, Returning Weather imaginatively weaves song, spoken word, visual effects and a stellar group of musicians from diverse disciplines together, creating a multi-dimensional sound-world which blends influences from folk, 20th-century art song and jazz. It charts a journey which is part homecoming, part memoir, inspired by Christine’s return to Ireland after many years abroad and explores themes of finding home, dwelling and landscape, reconnecting with a cultural background, reshaping a sense of identity and belonging. The songs are set in the countryside around Frenchpark, Boyle and Ballaghadereen. There are many songs of leaving and farewell, this is the music of homecoming and return. She was commissioned to write this evocative new song cycle by The Dock Arts Centre, with an Arts Council, Music Commissions Award.

PAST TOURS
PELT – WINTER UK TOUR 2018 – 2019
This tour was organised by Right Tempo Agency & funded by the Arts Council of England. My latest album, PELT is a collection of my musical settings of poems & lyrics by the Pulitzer prize winning Irish poet Paul Muldoon. This UK tour will be the first time to really explore this music live & the band I’m taking on the road is amazing! I’ll have Gareth Lockrane – flutes, Phil Robson – guitar/electronics, Steve Hamilton – piano/keyboard/laptop, Kate Shortt – cello/vocals/deaf signing, Richard Jones – violin, Dave Whitford – upright/electric bass, Simon Lea – drums & of course me on vocals. We will also be joined by Paul Muldoon for one performance as well as by NYC poet Eva Salzman on 2 other gigs. For full venue details see http://righttempoagency.com/concerts/christine-tobin/

Hello Christine – I love your voice and your music. And you should know that my daughter – who is now 18 – for the last many years always has put on either Keith Jarrets ” The Melody at Night With You” or “Romance and R” or The Secret Life of ..” when she was in the need for resting and finding peace – A real compliment for you : ) We look forward to listening to Yeats, you and the wonderful band. And hope you will come to Denmark very ! All the best from Ane Ramloese

we have only just discovered Christine. WOW!! Have just returned from her concert at Terry OTtoole Theatre, North Hykeham. Her voice is breathtaking….didn’t think anyone could do justice to Leonard Cohen songs but I was wrong, very wrong.
February 15, 2014 at 4:33 pm
My wife and I saw the show at North Hykeham in November and thought it was wonderful. The new CD which I bought on the night is also first class. We were determined to see the show again so have just received our front row tickets for September at The Sage at Gateshead. Looking forward to seeing you again, best wishes from Barrie and Judith.
